Speaking at a meeting on August 16 in Thanh Hoa, general director of Gulf Vietnam Panawit Sidejchayabhon said that the group was looking forward to learning about investment promotion projects and appreciated the potential of the province’s economic zone, especially in Nghi Son Port area, which is very convenient for large ships to transport materials for construction.

The general director of Gulf Vietnam expressed his desire to cooperate with the local Department of Industry and Trade, the Nghi Son Economic Zone Management Authority and industrial zones to conduct in-depth surveys to assess the feasibility of each proposed project. At the same time, the company expects to receive the support of the authorities during the implementation process.

Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thi said, “Renewable energy and LNG are the province’s priority to call investment capital in the upcoming time. The province is committed to supporting and accompanying the investors from starting steps.”

The visit to Thanh Hoa is a part of the Gulf’s survey programme to develop a LNG project in the north and central region.

In Vietnam, Gulf currently operates two solar power farms in the southern province of Tay Ninh, and two wind farms in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai. In addition, it is the operator of one solar power farm and one wind farm in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre.

In 2019, Gulf also signed a cooperation agreement with Ninh Thuan People's Committee on researching and proposing investment for the LNG warehouse project and the Ca Na LNG gas complex project with a scale of 6,000MW, including four mixed-cycle gas turbine plants, each with a capacity of 1,500MW.

The project will have an investment value of $7.8 billion and is expected to be invested under the build-operate-transfer format. However, to date the project has not moved any further forward.
