Boeing urged to explore more investment opportunities in Vietnam
Vietnam's Party General Secretary and President To Lam has urged Boeing to explore investment opportunities in Vietnam, specifically in establishing aircraft component manufacturing facilities and a regional-scale maintenance centre connected to the country’s major airports.
"We encourage Boeing to swiftly research and implement investments in component production plants and a regional maintenance centre linked to Vietnam’s key airports," Lam said.
The proposal was made during a meeting with Brendan Nelson, Global President of Boeing, on September 22 in New York, where President Lam was attending the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He also called on Boeing to enhance cooperation in human resource development, technology transfer, and research and development, while integrating more Vietnamese companies into Boeing’s global supply chain.
Additionally, President Lam requested Boeing's collaboration with Vietnamese partners to expedite the completion and delivery of aircraft purchase agreements that have been signed recently.
Expressing appreciation for Boeing’s business successes and longstanding partnership with Vietnam, including with Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet, Lam thanked Boeing for its contributions to developing Vietnam’s aviation and aerospace industries.
"We recognise and value Boeing’s commitment to supporting the development of Vietnam’s aerospace ecosystem in the coming years," he remarked.
He also highlighted the strengthening ties between Vietnam and the United States, especially following the recent upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
"Vietnam is fully committed to providing better conditions for US investors, including Boeing, to operate successfully and sustainably within the country," Lam added.
In response, Brendan Nelson reaffirmed Boeing’s dedication to supporting Vietnam's aviation sector, with a focus on building aviation infrastructure, training skilled personnel, and establishing airport and aircraft maintenance facilities.
"Boeing remains committed to Vietnam, especially in helping to develop its aviation ecosystem and infrastructure," Nelson said.
He further emphasised Boeing’s close collaboration with Vietnam’s national airline to address both immediate and long-term challenges, including financial support and fulfilling contractual obligations.
Nelson reaffirmed Boeing’s goal of delivering on its commitments, particularly regarding the aircraft purchase contracts signed during US President Joe Biden’s visit to Vietnam last year.
"The growth of Vietnam’s aviation sector will unlock numerous opportunities for the country and its people," said Nelson.
