With a coastline stretching more than 3,260 km, Vietnam hopes to cooperate with the Netherlands in seaport building, contributing to turning the country into an international hub for logistics and transshipment, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has said.
When meeting leading Dutch enterprises in Amsterdam on December 11 as part of his official visit to the Netherlands, Prime Minister Chinh added that Vietnam is pooling global support to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
With huge potential in wind and solar energy, it needs the support of the global community in regard to capital, technology, workforce training, governance, and institution building to fully tap its potential, he said.
He also told the Dutch enterprises about Vietnam’s policies on transfer pricing, double taxation avoidance, and intellectual property protection, along with the growth of ties between Vietnam and the Netherlands from a development partnership to mutually-beneficial cooperation.
Meeting Heineken NV CEO Dolf van den Brink while visiting Heineken Global headquarters in Amsterdam, the Prime Minister lauded the effective operations of the Heineken-SATRA joint venture, one of the first foreign-invested enterprises in Vietnam in beer production and distribution. It has so far opened six breweries, creating over 3,000 direct jobs and 150,000 indirect jobs.
The brewer has to date invested $1 billion in Vietnam and plans to pour an additional $500 million into the country.
Prime Minister Chinh asked Heineken to continue using modern and sustainable technology while doing business in Vietnam, to contribute to local social welfare and environmental protection. He also vowed to fine-tune taxation policies in a spirit of harmonizing interests and sharing risks between the State, investors, and the people.
Mr. van den Brink said the group wants to contribute to Vietnam’s efforts to realize its strong commitment to net-zero emissions, and made several proposals on the energy purchase mechanism and solar energy.
Leaders from the Boskalis group, meanwhile, said it can provide policy consultation to Vietnam on setting up a legal framework for sustainable sand exploitation at sea.
Executive Director of Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, Arnout Damen, said it plans to invest $100 million more in shipbuilding in Vietnam, and wants to help the country develop a green transport network.
And representatives from AkzoNobel spoke of intellectual property and investment in logistics, and affirmed that it is ready to work with Vietnam to realize goals in climate change response.
