Electronic Taiwanese firms keen to invest in Hai Phong
The Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board on May 23 hosted an investment promotion conference with the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA) seeking investment opportunities in the northern port city.
The event brought together various presidents and CEOs of nearly 50 enterprises operating in the fields of electronics manufacturing, high technology, and semiconductor chips.
At the meeting, Chen Hung Chin, chairman of Wieson Technologies Co Ltd, briefed delegates on TEEMA's multi-sectoral operations, saying its member businesses’ revenue accounts for about 56% of industrial production value in Taiwan (China), and through a number of trade promotion programmes, it has become an important partner of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board.
This is the third time that TEEMA has dispatched business delegations to conduct a survey on the business climate in Hai Phong, he said, noting that Taiwanese firms highly appreciate the investment environment in the city.
For his part, Le Trung Kien, head of the Management Board of the Hai Phong Economic Zone, said that through trade promotion sessions many large Taiwanese corporations have chosen the city as an investment destination.
He expected that TEEMA would continue to co-ordinate and provide support to the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board in organizing a large-scale investment promotion conference in Taiwan this September.
He also introduced the northern port city’s potential and advantages in terms of modern infrastructure of seaports, highways, railways, and airports, all of which meet requirements for international integration.
Hai Phong boasts a system of industrial parks and economic zones operating according to international standards with an ecosystem of businesses and a diverse production supply chain, he added.
Recent years has seen the city consistently listed among the leading localities in Vietnam in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction, with FDI capital flows reaching an average of about US$2.5 billion per year.
According to the Management Board of Hai Phong Economic Zone, the city has so far attracted more than 960 FDI projects from 42 countries and territories, with a registered capital of more than US$31 billion. Of the figure, there are 65 investment projects from Taiwan with a total capital of more than US$2 billion
Most notably, a number of these large enterprises in the electronics and high-tech fields have invested in Hai Phong’s industrial parks, including Pegatron Vietnam Co., Ltd, Universal Scientific Industrial Vietnam Co., Ltd, and Lite On Vietnam Co., Ltd.
