Dien was in Detroit, Michigan, for a Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) meeting and an Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) ministerial meeting.

Meeting with Dien on the sidelines of those gatherings, Biegun noted that Boeing has already opened a representative office in Vietnam due to the local market’s potential and important position for the firm’s business strategy.

In addition, the firm plans to deepen commercial relations in the aviation field with Vietnamese airlines and invest in developing the supply chain of aviation spare parts and equipment in the local market, along with ramping up cooperation in some specific fields, such as helicopters and transportation, said Biegun.

Minister Dien for his part highly appreciated Boeing’s plan to build a strategic relationship in the Vietnamese market, and to cooperate more deeply with Vietnam to develop the aviation ecosystem.

This will also help promote bilateral trade between the two countries, Dien affirmed.

According to the minister, a number of suppliers in Vietnam have been supporting the manufacturing of some Boeing commercial aircraft components. However, enterprises engaging in the aerospace supply chain are mainly foreign-invested enterprises of the US, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese enterprises are only able to produce small parts and accessories, and their added value is not high. Dien therefore said Boeing’s future investment in Vietnam would help create a stronger spillover effect on improving the manufacturing capacity of Vietnamese enterprises.

The minister went on to say that from 2020, the aerospace industry has been included in the list of high-tech industries prioritized for investment and development by Vietnam. In the mechanical engineering industry in Vietnam, large firms have been formed to pursue larger goals in the field of high technology and they can completely become potential partners of Boeing in the future.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is ready to coordinate with strategic partners such as Boeing in designing a favourable cooperation framework, ensuring the sustainable development of the aviation auxiliary industry in Vietnam, helping Vietnamese suppliers step by step participate in Boeing’s global value chain, and at the same time helping Boeing realize its strategic goals and long-term vision, said Dien.

The Minister suggested that Boeing further accelerate the development of its suppliers network in Vietnam, build specific connection and support projects, and provide consultations for supporting industry enterprises that can meet the requirements set forth by the firm.

He also asked Boeing to send experts to support enterprises in personnel training and technology transfer when all conditions are met.

Dien took this occasion to invite Boeing to attend Vietnam Sourcing 2023 – an event to contact international suppliers – to be held in Ho Chi Minh City on September 13-15, to seek cooperation opportunities with Vietnamese enterprises.

The Boeing representative accepted the invitation with pleasure.
